Don’t Let Anyone Tell You How To Fix Your Bedroom
Decorating your bedroom is really a subjective matter. I learned that lesson the hard way. I realized that no matter what magazines or an expert interior designer tells you, it is still you who spends hours inside each day and sleeps in it for several years to come. Your bedroom is supposed to be your place of solaceand therefore should offer you all the comfort and environment that you need for optimum relaxation and peace.
Do What You Like
I’ve always been a fan of howard miller clocks. However, almost everymagazines I read told me that there should not be more than 2 pieces that keeps time in the room. I then followed the advice to seek other forms that will also help me keep track of time such as opening the windows and watching the different positions of the sun. The problem was, I was getting the time but I was not getting the look I wanted.
After following several different advices and suggestionsfrom various sources, my room became a hodgepodge of sorts. One quarter presented the classical era, the opposite end depicted a more contemporarytone, another was more country and rustic and the remaining partswere mostly just confusing. My different moods would fly each time I come inside. I felt more stressed than relieved once I stepped in.
I realized that there are no rules in designing your own space. I then let go of all the stereotypical advice then started doing things the way I preferred. I felt much better getting more mantel clocks and placing them in various points in the room. Watching the new pieces made me more relaxed and increasea sense of creativity and originality.
Getting More Creative
I made a list of all the things I wanted to include in my room, such as rose petals on the tabletops, decorative wall clock, a huge mirror and abstract paintings. I also decided on a color scheme that would accentuate my clocks more. Yellow and brown seem to depict a very relaxed and coordinated environment. The colors actually combinedwell with the overall concept I came up.
I was getting more praises from other people, especially from friends and my own family. It is almost 2 years since my room looked like a complete mess. Every now and then I would modifythings up just to keep the space interesting and fresh for me. Whatever you intend to do with your bedroom, you should be free to do so. I planned the layout according to the different activities I would be doing.
I set up one corner where I could study conveniently with as little noise as possible. The sleeping area is my favorite and the most restfularea of all. I filled it with huge pillows and painted the ceiling above dark blue, giving me full serenity each time before I shut my eyes. OccasionallyI would still encounter some problems such as not having enough space for new furniture or getting the wrong color, but everything is a learning process and I am still getting the results I envisioned in the end.
